Simple, Not Easy

Extreme Ownership How US Navy Seals Lead and Win

By Jocko Willink and Leif Babin

Yes, this was a tough read for me as so much of what I fear and judge around our war mongering nation was front and center, that said, I learned some things I want to share—leadership, discipline, and how we navigate intensity and hardship are definitely part of my on-going self education.
Here’s the main thing I want to offer which they did not invent and credited to a World Wrestling Federation champion: Simple, not easy.  So much of what I teach and of where many humans struggle is with things that are outwardly someplace—meditation, consistency with exercise, nutrition, daily contemplative practices, communication…all examples of things that are fundamentally SIMPLE, but truly, not easy. Which is why we give up, are inconsistent or live in excuses—Navy Seal train themselves out of these bad habits and they do succeed—their goals is another subject and not one for here or now.
